It Came From the Drive In: Mazes and Monsters (with Jarvisrama99)

The Creature: Back in the 1970’s, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson were one day decided to try and create a Game. The two being familiar with creating games of role playing with their first collaborated project Don’t Give Up The Ship!, They wanted it to be considered the Fantasy Game using elements and influences of J.R.R. Tolkien, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Rice Burroughs, The Book of Genesis, Lewis Caroll, Jack Vance, and Improvisational theater among many others. That game was made and is known by the world as Dungeons and Dragons.
The game was a Massive success, influencing many others to create some of their own RPG games, spawning with many different genres as well as some being tie-ins with Films, Novels and Television and is still often played to this day played by millions of people, regardless of age.
While the game was running high with success, something…really bizarre happened shortly afterward. A lot of religious groups and paranoid parents started believing that it was a means of promoting Satanism and Witchcraft simply by seeing the demons and depictions of naked creatures in the Monster Manuals and they’ve blindly written the game off as being Evil.

With the MLP fandom, it comes to no surprise that there are many different shows and films that have become involved with the show. Whether it be crossover or Ponification, there will always be some connection between the two, even within the show itself. So, I’ve decided to take a look at a crossover between the Show and one of my favorite movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas.
It Came From the Drive In – Garzey’s Wing

Throughout the course of my life and viewing the tens of hundreds of films and television shows I’ve seen, the world of Japanese Animation has always been something that I’ve surprisingly had little to no interest in.
It’s something that been a bit of mystery to me considering I’m a big fan of a lot of Animated Films and Shows. I know of the various shows and how diverse they can be, but I’ve never given it much of a chance until recently. While some of what I’ve seen have been fine so far, I always find ones that I have ended up hating immensely which leads me to what I’m going to talk about. Today, I’ve decided to change things up for this review as I’m going to look at a Three Part OVA that’s well known for being amazingly terrible as well as being the low point of Gundam Creator Yoshiyuki Tomino’s career. Well with a reputation like that, it seems I must somehow make sense of my convoluted situation and take a look at the series entitled Garzey’s Wing.
A boy named Chris is traveling off by his soul suddenly taken by a Giant Technicolor Goose Ghost to a msytical world called Byston Well where he is believed to be a Holy Warrior who has the ability to use a power called Garzey’s Wing which will help them against some evil King. Meanwhile, his body is still in the human world and somehow the two are able to communicate via Necklace and his body tries to help the alternate Chris by giving advice.
The plot of this may be extremely simple, but it sure doesn’t seem like it when you watch it. The story constantly adds in scenes with Chris in the real world, discussions with the King, and background characters talking to each other at random times. Not to mention the fact that all these scenes are tossed around in a very incoherent order and it’s very distracting.
Normally when watching Anime, I don’t really care about preferences over English or Japanese audio,…but this is the worst english dub I’ve ever heard. The translation sounds like they made it so literal that it sounds odd at times and to add to the damage, these VAs are HORRIBLE. They have almost no emotion in their dialogue and they sounded like they were shouting their lines most of the time. Although, they do offer some funny lines in the first two parts of it.
With the voice acting being as bad as it is, it definitely adds on to how boring the characters are in this. Both Chris’s are boring characters who wouldn’t seem like the “Holy Warrior” that people would want…well, then again, Ash Williams wasn’t much of a chosen one they hoped for either in Army of Darkness.
There are multiple female characters throughout the show that often try to help both Chris’s by either fighting or giving him some moral support. Although, the basically are very pointless (much like everybody in this OVA) and often seem like they don’t actually care about the current situation.
The Rest of the characters are pretty much completely forgettable and only show up to add additional dialogue and exposition to move the story along. Although the one character I absolutely could not stand was a fairy named Falan Fa. She basically came with Chris to Byston Well through some very oddly explained ways and she’s extremely annoying. Probably the most anime characters I’ve seen so far. (I’ll probably fine one that’s annoys me even more though.)
The Animation throughout it is mediocore at best. There aren’t very many scenes that are very brilliant as it could be, but there were some really bad scenes that had people moving in place as well as some repetitive animations sequences used as well. So, much like other obscure OVA’s that I’ve seen, it definitely lacks in the animation department.
Final Thoughts: This was bad…really bad. I was a bit baffled on how bad this actually was. It was one of the most intersting yet boring OVAs that’s out there in the wide world of Japanese Animation. It’s pretty much up there with a film you’d see on Mystery Science Theater 3000. I think it’s worth watching for Riffing material and some of the hilarious dialogue, but don’t expect much greatness outside of just that.

It Came From The Drive In: Cannibal Holocaust

Now-a-days, the most overused and much hated type of film that has often flooded the film market is the Found Footage Genre.
Whether it be for the Paranormal Activity movies or any other film else aside from them, the genre has often been a way for studios to chase in on a popular film style as well as saving a couple of bucks along the way since it’s cheaper to film with a camcorder instead of a typical high definition 8mm film camera and the result most being films that induce motion sickness. With all the current stuff being about nothing but Ghosts and intergalactic beings, it’s pretty obvious that most of them aren’t worth any time viewing. (Although, I do think that there are some that are worth a look.) So I’ve decided to dig deep into the genre’s film vault and try to find something different and lucky for me, I’ve found the perfect film to fit the bill. A film that is considered the first Found Footage movie as well as being popular due to the reaction and controversy surrounding it as well as being banned in multiple countries. All of this and more thrown into a 1980 Italian Exploitation film known to the world as Cannibal Holocaust.
It Came From the Drive In – Hellraiser

A while ago, Decker Shado did his review of Beastmaster. When he stated it was his first film he ever saw, it got me thinking about what my first film I saw as a child was. I eventually found out that my first film I saw was Tim Burton’s Batman…
Although, I was only a baby at the time so I didn’t consider that to be an option. With that out of the way, I then decided to pick one that I remembered off the top of my head…So what film was it?
…That actually explains a lot…

Well, it’s finally 2015, and Season 5 of Friendship is Magic will soon come out. While we are stuck waiting, we are left with many other options and alternative things Pony Related to look upon. Today, I’ve decided to uncover what is considered by many as the worst generation of My Little Pony to ever be created…the generation of MLP that I knew of growing up…Generation 3.
The Creature’s Thoughts on “The Interview”
January 5, 2015 in Uncategorized
Well, I finally got the chance to see the film that’s being getting a lot of hype and controversy surrounding it from when the first official trailer came out. Personally, I had no really interest in seeing the film at first when I saw the trailer. I merely saw it as just a dumb comedy movie (as I do with most comedies films that are coming out recently,) and then all of the controversy started up.
While the threats of war and complaints came about, my opinion never really changed for it. Eventually the film was pulled from major theater chains but still remained at lesser known theaters, thus limiting the masses getting the chance to see it. Regardless of the controversy, the film was met with mixed reviews. Most of them ranging with biased opinions about it. While I didn’t rent it, I found a theater that was showing it and I decided it would be at least a way to get out of the house (and back indoors) and saw The Interview, hoping I’d get to see if it’s actually worth getting all of the attention it’s received. Letters to Celestia: The Gift of the Mash
December 31, 2014 in Uncategorized
(This was originally was going to be uploaded on Christmas Eve, but I didn’t finish in time. Anyways, enjoy my belated Christmas LtC review.)
With Christmas just around the corner, People always have some kind of plans whether it is Traveling to Family or having family come over. Occasionally though, sometimes these plans don’t go over very well (Especially if you’re from the Griswold family.) With such things happening, it could be due to many different reasons, and one such thing happens between a member of the CMC and a Gamer Pony in a fanfic I’m here to talk about called The Gift of the Mash.
