– “This Little Light of Mine”, 1920s American Gospel, version of this song used in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air episode “Hare Today…” (Season 6, Episode 18) aired on NBC on April 8, 1996, original performers of this song’s version: Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton Banks), Tatyana Ali (Ashley Banks), and the chorus headed by Cal Gibson (Choir Master Hawkins).

So, I hope you all had beautiful, prosperous, and thrilling birthdays, and I wish you a lot of love, fortitude, and abundance in your lives as artists and as people as well as the happiest of holidays. This is also my entry for this year’s Red Ribbon Reviewers.

Taking centre stage this holiday season are 32-year-old Kohaku, his 29-year-old wife Rin, 30-year-old Souta, and his 28-year-old wife Kanna backed up by the chorus consisting of their parental figures 40-year-old Sesshoumaru, 39-year-old Inuyasha, 36-year-old Ayame, 39-year-old Shuran, 38-year-olds Hakkaku and Ginta, and 34-year-old Shunran singing this gospel classic which has become their Christmas tradition. Not seen, however, are 29-year-old Shiori on the organ and 31-year-old Kai and 28-year-old Shinta on the tambourines accompanying the vocalists. Ever since Sesshoumaru adopted Asagi, Dai, Roku, Kai, Rin, Shiori, and Shinta as his children, Shuran embraced Kohaku, Shintaro, Taichi, Souta, Shion, Bunza, and Kokichi as his sons, Hakkaku welcomed Hitomi, Moegi, Satsuki, Mizuki, Koume, and Ai as his daughters, Inuyasha and Ayame as well as Ginta and Shunran ended up being happily married with fourteen children of their own, they made it their family tradition to host their annual Christmas pageant where they would perform scenes and sing various Christmas carols, spirituals, and pieces of gospel music. Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Ayame, Shuran, Hakkaku, Ginta, Shunran, Kohaku, Rin, Souta, and Kanna would end the pageant with their rendition of their most favourite gospel song “This Little Light of Mine”, with the younger ones singing the solo parts and the parents singing the chorus. Even when Kohaku and Rin as well as Souta and Kanna are married with children of their own ranging from 15 to 9 years old, they still partake with their fathers, uncles, and aunties in the festive cheer along with their children as per tradition.

Ever since I familiarised myself with Carlton and Ashley, played by Alfonso Ribeiro and Tatyana Ali, singing their rendition of “This Little Light of Mine” in the Season 6 episode “Hare Today…”, I became an immediate fan of how their voices harmonised and complimented each other. The chorus’s backup coupled with this song being sung in the A-flat major key, in this video it is transposed upwards to the A major key, makes this a truly joyful experience. I hope you also enjoy listening to this song plus imagining Kohaku, Rin, Souta, Kanna, Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Ayame, Shuran, Hakkaku, Ginta, and Shunran singing to it.

I hope you all enjoyed this, and I will see you in the next submission. Take care, stay safe, and never forget to let the light shine within you this holiday season, everybody.
