I’ll be honest – I never understood the trend of setting Shakespearian plays in different eras but still retaining all the original dialogue. It just creates a weird kind of disconnect. Still, from what I’ve seen of this movie Ian McKellen absolutely nails it in the lead role.
I mean, some things could stay intact like the “winter of our discontent” speech, but there’s nothing wrong with tweaking/modernizing the rest of the script.

I kind of agree. It’s interesting to see it in a different context, but the words don’t fit very well.
