  1. Man, this takes me back, I haven’t seen this show in like… eight years I think, maybe even more. I do like this new format, it is a better blend of telling some parts of the story while also giving the critic aspect more room, abridging also allows for better pacing. My Fanfic Critic lore knowledge is rusty so I don’t remember what was the difference between Megan and Susan other than the latter’s British accent but this character’s sardonic presentation is entertaining enough. Overall keep going with this, I’m curious to see how this format fits for longer and more serious fics.

  2. The Fanfic Critic. It’s been a while.

I think Susan’s taking over for Meg was pretty much inevitable, as she was always the more level-headed one. While Meg would go crazy and injure herself, or her cameras, webcam, or computer, or at the very least have a good scream, Susan would always react to a bad fic by more or less shaking her head and saying to the authors of the fic that they know better, or at the very least SHOULD know better.

I don’t blame you for wanting to give a summary of the fic instead of reading it out loud. There are plenty of fics featured in the previous series that are really tough to read out loud, due to their subject matter. When a fic is truly, truly, horrible, it’s easier on the sanity not to try to read the entire thing out loud — at least not in one sitting, certainly. Some of those are better off just being related in summarized form.

Of course, not all fics are as horrible as that. Some are more weird than bad. Some shorter fics that don’t contain nearly as horrible subject matter as, say, a certain MLP:FIM horror fic, might still be worth reading out loud. But if it’s the sort of thing that makes one believe the author of the fic needs serious psychological help, then it’s probably better off not being read aloud in its entirety. Stream of consciousness comments follows:

At the 2:30 mark. The beginning of the fic, as summarized there, resembles Hammohamster’s Fanfic Critic parody where she accused the Fanfic Critic of not having a life outside of looking for fanfics to use on her show.

The ‘burping’ thing seems like the weird random OOC nonsense seen in other fics parodying the Fanfic Critic. And like a lot of fanfics read on the previous show (including a certain one I requested), there seem to be some biological inaccuracies that the author didn’t care about (in this case, how ‘passing gas’ works).

Berta? Bertha? Yes, it annoys me when writers don’t look back on what they’ve already written and don’t give their bit players a consistant name or a consistantly-spelled name. I’ve seen it WAY too many times on Internet fiction sites (and not just in fan fiction).

I agree. The grand prize doesn’t make any sense given how far the contestants have to go to get to the contest. I think it’s another sign that the writer of the fic Just Didn’t Care.

The ‘Numa Numa’ song? Wow. It’s been a while since I’ve heard that one. Ah, the good old days where it was a meme, and Rickrolling was still a new thing, and trolls were just Internet annoyances who hid behind ridiculous screen names and not in politics.

So yes, not every fic is meant to be taken seriously, but it seems like the writer of this fic didn’t really care whether it made sense, or it had internal consistency, or if it was in any way ‘smart’. There’s good ways to do ‘fart’ and ‘burping’ and bodily function humor – South Park has shown that – but this is just something someone with too much time on their hands churned out without making a lot of effort. We’ve all seen worse fics than this, but this just wasn’t very good.

All in all, a good reboot/relaunch.
