Well, this is a fun film. Probably Pee-Wee Herman’s best feature film outing (to this day, I’ve not seen Big Top Pee-Wee, nor have I seen the recent Netflix movie where they de-age Paul Reubens via CGI or whatever so he can reprise the part). It never takes itself too seriously, and there’s a bit of foreshadowing for Beetlejuice with the Large Marge character.
I’m probably going to get flack for this, but I admit I never really saw the appeal of Pee Wee. I tried watching Big Adventure, and I just couldn’t find it interesting. Glad that you and so many others still like it, though.
This was my introduction to Pee-Wee Herman. I never watched him as a kid and only caught wind of him recently and I enjoyed it. I can easily see why he was so popular back in the day after watching it.

I think Pee-Wee can best be summed up as having a clowns appeal, and if you didn’t grow up with him I can see why he wouldn’t appeal to you.

Like I said, he was huge back in the 80s. Then there was some…ah…unpleasantness.
