I have to disagree with your assessment of John Turturro’s performance – yes, he’s basically being Groucho, but he does it so well I have to admire it. The movie definitely suffers from a few issues as an attempt to modernize the Marx Brothers formula for the 90s, but I find a lot of the jokes to be clever and the characters are all quite enjoyable, so I have a good time every time I see it, even if it is an unsubtle remake.
Now if you want to see a really bad classic comedy homage, the Laurel and Hardy movie from 1997 is painful to sit through.
