A further note: Apparently, this show was very loosely based on a previous British show called Whoops Apocalypse, but different enough that the creators of Woops! didn’t have to pay royalties or anything like that.
I remember seeing an advertisement for this show. All I knew about it was that it was a sitcom about the end of the world. I never actually saw it.
Turns out the show was a LOT worse than I thought. Comedians mocked Gilligan’s Island to death for its premise (where the passengers of the S.S. Minnow brought along an absurd amount of clothes and other belongings for what was supposed to be a three-hour tour prior to them being stranded on the island), but THIS show’s explanation for its premise makes Gilligan’s Island look like highbrow intellectual art by comparison.
And yes, judging from what little I’ve seen, the acting is bad, but to be fair, the actors aren’t being given a lot to work with. They’re given a lot of horribly-written dialogue, they have no idea what to do with the ridiculous (and not in a good way) premise, and it seems like they don’t know whether to ham it up or play it straight. Honestly, it’s not surprising that the show didn’t last very long.
I noticed a lot of reference jokes in this review. I agree that the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror segment, ‘The Homega Man’ did a MUCH better job of doing a darkly comedic take on a nuclear holocaust. That segment was smarter, and a lot funnier than this show could ever hope to be. Plus, unlike Woops!, it’s only one short segment and doesn’t wear out its welcome.

I’d like to hope that Whoops Apocalypse was at least somewhat funnier.

Never heard of this before, and I can see why it’s been forgotten. Just atrocious.
Also, why the heck does everyone have a white patch in their hair? Is that a result of the explosions?
Thank you, I was wondering that myself. It just seemed so bizarre
Even weirder because in the clips he showed from the episodes after the pilot, those patches disappear. Which left me even more confused.
