Hello, everybody. Antoni here. It should be no surprise that I have been binge-watching Inuyasha Episodes 35, 75, 76, 77, 83, 84, and 102 as well as select episodes of the Our Gang films, Diff’rent Strokes, Little House on the Prairie, Family Matters, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Cosby Show, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, Disney’s The Legend of Tarzan, Disney’s Hercules, Conan the Adventurer, Sheena, Xena: Warrior Princess, Justice League, The Avengers, X-Men the Animated Series, and various comic versions of Tarzan, Conan of Cimmeria, John Carter of Mars, and many other jungle heroes I could name off the top of my head. I raise these titles because they are analogous of the timeline I have in store for my most beloved seven-person team The Splendid Seven consisting of dog yokai brothers Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha; wolf yokai warriors Hakkaku, Ginta, and Ayame, and panther yokai siblings Shuran and Shunran. I find it really interesting to incorporate shows, comics, and media I have been growing up with to illustrate how much The Splendid Seven have grown since childhood to adulthood. With that said, let us commence.
The Splendid Seven’s early childhood actually commenced with five children; 8-year-old Sesshoumaru, 7-year-old Inuyasha, 6-year-olds Hakkaku and Ginta, and 4-year-old Ayame, being raised by the 45-year-old Wolf Elder who was Ayame’s grandfather, 29-year-old Toga the Dog General as well as 25-year-old InuKimi the Dog Lady and 24-year-old Princess Izayoi who were Sesshoumaru’s, Inuyasha’s, Hakkaku’s, and Ginta’s father and mothers respectively. Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, and Ginta always looked up to their father as the greatest hero ever, whereas Ayame respected him with all her heart. While Sesshoumaru was particularly close to InuKimi and loved her company, with Inuyasha loving her too as his first mother, Izayoi really loved Inuyasha, Hakkaku, Ginta, and Ayame so much, and they loved her back. However, out of all the grown-ups in the family, Inuyasha and Ayame really admired The Wolf Elder because they always consoled him for great advice, and Ayame was really grateful to Inuyasha for saving her from The Birds of Paradise to the point where she exposited everything to her dear old grandfather. Almost like how Willis and Arnold Jackson were adopted by Philip Drummond from Diff’rent Strokes, the family increased after The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, and Izayoi adopted 7-year-old Shuran and 2-year-old Shunran from an orphanage, as they were disowned by their abusive and cruel biological father The Panther King. 7-year-old Toran and 3-year-old Karan also managed to find a new home with 4-year-old Ayumi’s single mother, as Ayumi also wanted sisters of her own. Speaking of sisters, Ayame did feel rather tired that she was the only girl in the family. So, when Shunran came into her life, the girls were overjoyed to be sisters forever just like Mary and Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie. As for Shuran, he did also feel lonely being the only boy in his family before being adopted. However, he was overjoyed to have Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, and Ginta as his brothers because it meant that he can do a lot of physical activities with them like combat sports. Their early childhood has also seen Sesshoumaru, Shuran, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, Ginta, Ayame, and Shunran build their own clubhouse where they did a lot of after-school activities just like the children in the Our Gang short films, with the boys tackling each other to the ground and the girls giggling while playing board games. All of their activities were done under the lovingly watchful eyes of The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, and Izayoi who were always happy to see their children play together and be a loving unit that transcended friendship, brotherhood in the five boys’ case, and sisterhood in the two girls’ case combined.
Throughout the rest of their childhood, all seven children had well established routines that helped them have direction and organisation in everything they did. Every weekday would see Sesshoumaru, Shuran, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, Ginta, Ayame, and Shunran going to school, coming home to do their homework, having dinner with their parents and grandfather, and going to bed, with the five boys in one bedroom and the two girls in another bedroom. Every weekend and holiday would see the seven children go to theme parks, the beach, the park, and the waterpark which has always been their most favourite place in the world because this gave The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, Izayoi, Sesshoumaru, Shuran, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, Ginta, Ayame, and Shunran the chance to go down waterslides and splash down with a lot of smiles on their faces. The children’s super strength was fully realised by the time Sesshoumaru was 9, Shuran and Inuyasha were 8, Hakkaku and Ginta were 7, Ayame was 5, and Shunran was 3 when a giant reptile monster terrorised their neighbourhood, especially their clubhouse. This compelled Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha to go full yokai with their stripes more jagged and their eyes red with blue slits, thus increasing their strength and stamina; Shuran to use his super strength and lightning powers, Hakkaku and Ginta to use their quick reflexes, Ayame to use her furious fists and her fleet feet, and Shunran to use her agility and flower illusions to subdue the monster. The final blow came from Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru landed a huge, earth-shattering punch to the monster’s jaw. Inuyasha then grabbed the monster’s tail, swirled it around, threw it to the ground, and both he and Sesshoumaru jumped on it. They even compelled Shuran, Hakkaku, Ginta, Ayame, and Shunran to jump along with them. After the seven powerful yokai children were done jumping on the reptile monster, they roared at it, with Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha giving the loudest roar, thus leaving it to run away before Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha turned back to normal. The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, and Izayoi went outside to see what the commotion was about and saw their progeny looking rather messy. The four grown-ups then ordered the seven yokai children to come inside the house. Just as Sesshoumaru, Shuran, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, Ginta, Ayame, and Shunran were about to be grounded, the four grown-ups ended up applauding them for their bravery, initiative, and strength and were very proud of them. As all seven yokai children were about to go to bed, each of them had an idea about how their group should be named. Sesshoumaru’s idea was The Spectacular Septet, Shuran’s, Hakkaku’s, and Ginta’s was The Stupendous Seven, Ayame’s was The Super Strong Seven, and Shunran’s was The Stylish Seven. Inuyasha believed these ideas were great, but he ultimately came up with The Splendid Seven, which all of them agreed on. All seven yokai children put their hands together and made a pact that they will only fight to protect their friends, their families, and each other and will always stick together as one unit, thus ending with their iconic yell “Splendid Seven!” before being chided by their grandfather, father, and mothers that they should go to bed immediately.
The Splendid Seven’s career as superheroes was showing more promise as they grew from rambunctious children to valiant youths who could give The Power Rangers, The X-Men, The Avengers, and The Justice League a run for their money. This even got to the point where the seven yokai youths trained in various martial arts. 13-year-old Sesshoumaru has been training in Tae Kwon Do, karate, kendo, and judo with Toga. 12-year-old Inuyasha has been training in Pankration, wrestling, boxing, and kickboxing with The Wolf Elder. 9-year-old Ayame has been training in kickboxing, Shaolin Kung Fu, boxing, and judo with Toga and The Wolf Elder ever since she was a little girl. 12-year-old Shuran has been training in wrestling, sumo wrestling, Muay Thai, and Brazilian jujitsu with Toga. 11-year-old Hakkaku has been training in Muay Thai, Brazilian jujitsu, judo, and Tae Kwon Do with The Wolf Elder. 11-year-old Ginta has been training in karate, judo, Wushu, and Shaolin Kung Fu with InuKimi. 7-year-old Shunran has been training in Wushu, Shaolin Kung Fu, acrobatics, and gymnastics with Izayoi. The Splendid Seven’s grandfather and parents have indubitably helped them become a lot stronger as fighters. Aside from all the rigorous combat training, the family still had time to do really lovely deeds for each other. When Toga, InuKimi, and Izayoi celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary, Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Ayame, Shuran, Hakkaku, Ginta, and Shunran performed their rendition of Ray Charles’s “The Nighttime is the Right Time”, with them being thoroughly entertained by how wonderfully their children performed this song. When The Wolf Elder celebrated his 50th birthday, the seven yokai children performed their rendition of James Brown’s “Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby”, and he definitely had a wonderful birthday celebration thanks to them. Every Halloween would see Sesshoumaru, Shuran, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, Ginta, Ayame, and Shunran tuning in to their favourite horror movies, especially Nightmare on Elm Street. Whenever Thanksgiving rolled around, The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, Izayoi, Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Ayame, Shuran, Hakkaku, Ginta, and Shunran would dance to The Temptations’ “Ain’t too Proud to beg” before gathering at the dining hall for their traditional turkey dinner. When it came to Christmas, Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Ayame, Shuran, Hakkaku, Ginta, and Shunran would perform various Christmas carols and spirituals from “This Little Light of Mine” to “O Holy Night” with Izayoi on the piano, InuKimi on the flute, Toga on the guitar, The Wolf Elder on the drums, and their new friends Ichise, Kiba, Ran, and Cheza joining in their holiday activities. Summer vacations would, as always, be spent at the water park with The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, Izayoi, Sesshoumaru, Shuran, Inuyasha, Hakkaku, Ginta, Ayame, and Shunran going down waterslides and diving from diving boards. Their academic and extracurricular endeavours were just as imperative to The Splendid Seven’s growth, considering that Sesshoumaru was a Straight-A student, a staunch member of the debate and kendo teams, and loved physics and sociology, Shuran was an MVP of the wrestling and football teams and enjoyed biology and Japanese, Inuyasha was a star player in wrestling, boxing, track-and-field, and basketball and was passionate about Physical Education and shop class, Hakkaku was into basketball and football and enjoyed chemistry and home economics, Ginta really enjoyed basketball and soccer and was keen on mathematics and history, Ayame was an MVP in lacrosse, volleyball, and soccer and was a drama and English literature enthusiast, and Shunran was a keen gymnast, acrobat, and trampoliner and was a fan of art and music. The Splendid Seven managed to balance their superhero duties, family life, and academics really well and maintained organisation, unconditional love, and unwavering encouragement all throughout the family, although their adolescent years would show that change was going to happen.
The Splendid Seven’s adolescent lives also grew in responsibility and changes in certain dynamics. 10-year-old Ayame might have been close to 13-year-old Inuyasha since childhood, but she did have a crush on 14-year-old Sesshoumaru before realising that her heart truly belonged to Inuyasha. Inuyasha was also starting to develop feelings for Ayame to the point where he ended up having a pep talk with Sesshoumaru about Inuyasha being himself and seeing so much potential in his relationship with Ayame. Inuyasha finally had the gumption to tell Ayame how he truly feels about her, and Ayame did the same in return, thus affirming their engagement. Inuyasha and Ayame were also the first couple to marry by the time he reached 14 and she reached 11, with them being blessed by 15-year-old Sesshoumaru as the best man, 36-year-old Toga, and the 52-year-old Wolf Elder. Shunran followed suit at 9 years old when it came to boys and also told 13-year-old Ginta how much she liked him, with him responding how much he has always cared for her and would never leave her. 15-year-old Sesshoumaru 14-year-olds Shuran and Inuyasha, 13-year-old Hakkaku, and 11-year-old Ayame were just as supportive to the point where Inuyasha and Ayame, being the couple that were first to marry, wished Ginta and Shunran well in their relationship. One year later, 14-year-old Ginta and 10-year-old Shunran ended up being married, with them being blessed by 33-year-old InuKimi and 32-year-old Izayoi. Although both Inuyasha and Ayame as well as Ginta and Shunran were happily married couples, they still remained under one roof as The Splendid Seven, as they continued to grow stronger together, defend their family from every monster they fought, and learn that growing up is not always about doing grown-up things but learning to embrace challenges as bravely as possible and learning from their mistakes. Their powers grew exponentially when Sesshoumaru reached 19, Shuran and Inuyasha reached 18, Hakkaku and Ginta reached 17, Ayame reached 15, and Shunran reached 13, considering how Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha were more balanced in how they only used their full yokai power only for protection and not for personal gain, Shuran’s super strength and lightning powers found balance in his agility, Hakkaku and Ginta grew a whole lot stronger and more courageous as fighters, Ayame’s punches, kicks, and throttles gained in power, and Shunran was far more of a physical fighter instead of just relying on her signature illusions. Furthermore, all seven of them have been embracing parenthood at such young ages, thus demonstrating great responsibility, unconditional love, and tender nourishment and ensuring that their children grow well and healthily, with Sesshoumaru, Shuran, and Hakkaku being single fathers as well as Inuyasha, Ayame, Ginta, and Shunran seeing their respective families grow so exponentially.
By the time The Splendid Seven were reaching young adulthood to adulthood, they continued to grow not only in strength but also in familial unity. Physically speaking, 19-year-old Sesshoumaru, 18-year-olds Shuran and Inuyasha, and 17-year-olds Hakkaku and Ginta already had toned physiques and were super strong fighters. Nevertheless, they ended up building more muscle, polished their wrestling skills, perfected their boxing skills, and perfected their roars with the help of Namontack, Kocoum, Hercules, George of the Jungle, Kaj, Basuli, Tarzan, Maugli, King Grayskull, Conan, Zula, Ryu, Ken, He-Man, Anabebe, Tar-Chan, Castor, Pollux, the Dell comic version of John Carter, Tarzan, Kavandavanda, Malb’yat, and Arok. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Ayame and 13-year-old Shunran were also perfecting their combat skills and toning their bodies with Xena, Gabrielle, La the High Priestess of Opar, Chun-Li, Cammy, Sheena, Rulah, Dejah Toris, Pocahontas, and Nakoma. Seven years later, 26-year-old Sesshoumaru, 25-year-olds Shuran and Inuyasha, and 24-year-olds Hakkaku and Ginta went from toned teenage boys to muscular men, while 22-year-old Ayame and 20-year-old Shunran went from energetic teenage girls to warlike women. Throughout their 20s to early 30s, The Splendid Seven reached pique physical formidability, with the five men gaining more muscle mass, the two women becoming more toned and sleek in physique, and all seven of them roaring like the mightiest of lions, the fiercest of tigers, and the most fearsome of leopards as well a remaining indestructible fighting machines. Even all of their adolescent to young adult children have inherited their parents’ super strength, incomparable combat prowess, and unwavering will and even made teams of their own, thus growing stronger in physicality, unity, and scope in everything they have been accomplishing so far. Kohaku, Shintaro, Dai, Roku, Kai, Taichi, and Souta have become capable practitioners of Tae Kwon Do, mixed martial arts, and Muay Thai. Rin, Shiori, Satsuki, Hitomi, Mizuki, Moegi, and Kanna have become experts in Shaolin Kung Fu, Wushu, and judo. Asagi, Shion, Bunza, Kokichi, Koume, Shinta, and Ai have become great in karate, aikido, and kendo. Inuyasha’s and Ayame’s sons have grown into formidable Pankratists and wrestlers, while their daughters have grown into fierce kickboxers and boxers. Ginta’s and Shunran’s sons have grown into fearless Muay Thai and Brazilian jujitsu practitioners, while their daughters have grown up to be flexible gymnasts and acrobats. Having five strong, muscular, and fierce fathers; two fearless, formidable, and heroic mothers; sons who are just as strong as their fathers, and daughters who are just as tough as their mothers certainly made The Splendid Seven’s family line something to truly behold.
Now with The Splendid Seven in their mid and late 30s to early 40s, they are all happy to see how their children and grandchildren have all grown in strength, courage, honour, and valour. Sesshoumaru, approaching 41, is still active in Tae Kwon Do and kendo, and has been teaching children, teenagers, and young adults Tae Kwon Do for several years. Shuran, approaching 40, is still in sumo wrestling and has always loved teaching sumo wrestling to young men because it teaches them confidence and strength. Inuyasha, also approaching 40, is still active in wrestling and Pankration and has always been passionate about teaching both wrestling and Pankration, considering he taught Pankration and wrestling to his sons and would love to pass it on to his students of all ages. Hakkaku, 39, is still active in Brazilian jujitsu and Muay Thai and has enjoyed teaching Brazilian jujitsu to his students regardless of how young or old they are. Ginta, approaching 39, is still active in karate and judo and has always revelled in teaching both karate and judo to young children because, given his experience teaching both martial arts to his sons, starting them young helps them grow in discipline and in companionship. Ayame, approaching 37, is still active in kickboxing and boxing and is dedicated to teaching both kickboxing and boxing to her students, especially since her daughters and all of her female students have always admired her lightning punches and kicks. Shunran, 35, is still active in Shaolin Kung Fu and Wushu and is always euphoric at the prospect of teaching both Shaolin Kung Fu and Wushu to her students, thus consistently sparking interest for her daughters and everybody under her wing. All seven of them continue to fight various monsters and demons with all of their strength, might, and valour, thus protecting every living being from all harm. Even their children have taken on that mantle of proving themselves to be capable warriors while passing down the torch to the next generation. The strength that The Splendid Seven, their children, and their grandchildren have is something that would make The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, and Izayoi really proud.
The Splendid Seven have come a long way from their early childhood to their current lives as fully grown adults. Starting off as rambunctious children consisting of five rowdy boys and two feisty girls, continuing as impassioned teenagers who have the world on their shoulders, and growing into powerful adults with the men imbuing muscular virility and the women embodying steely courage, they have definitely grown from strength to strength. The Wolf Elder, Toga, InuKimi, and Izayoi have done great jobs in making their children live their best possible lives, and The Splendid Seven are grateful for their mentors, parents, and role-models for shaping them to be more than they could be. Their bond remains unbreakable.
Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha, Ayame, Shuran, Hakkaku, Ginta, and Shunran from Inuyasha belong to Rumiko Takahashi and Sunrise.
