You know, I used to be a harder worker because of the whole “if you’re loyal to me, i’ll be loyal to you” concept – then more and more I saw how hard workers would get thrown out when their “usefulness” dried up, or see underhanded things employers would do to save a buck. I once got Employee of the Month and a $150 bonus the same month they shaved my shifts back 15 minutes at the beginning and 15 minutes at the end – meaning they took $7.50 per day away from me to do the same “above and beyond” work that got me recognized, I worked 21 days that month (so they cut $157.50 that month and beyond) and they expected me to be thankful.
Much of the blame, I’d say, has to go to Vince McMahon. Wendi Richter does not sound at all unreasonable for asking for better pay. The whole situation could have been handled a LOT better.
