Hello and welcome to In Too Deep Into Doctor Who, where I over-analyse each of the Doctors to find out which is best.
Well over the last thirteen weeks I’ve been talking about the good and bad of the various Doctors. Well here’s where we sit down and look at the final stats, see who won each individual area and most importantly who won overall. So Who’s the winner? Lets find out.
The Character
The Valeyard – 4/10
The Meta-Crisis Doctor – 5/10
The Third Doctor – 5/10
The Fifth Doctor – 6/10
The Second Doctor – 7/10
The Twelfth Doctor – 7/10
The Sixth Doctor – 7/10
The Seventh Doctor – 7/10
The First Doctor – 7/10
The Eleventh Doctor – 8/10
The War Doctor – 8/10
The Fourth Doctor – 9/10
The Eighth Doctor – 9/10
The Ninth Doctor – 10/10
The Tenth Doctor – 10/10
Surprise surprise the two Doctors that helped me get back into Doctor Who are the two Doctors who I think have the strongest characters overall. These are the two who I think were the most interesting to watch and see develop.
The Costume
The Meta-Crisis Doctor – 1/10
The Valeyard – 2/10
The Seventh Doctor – 3/10
The Second Doctor – 4/10
The First Doctor – 5/10
The War Doctor – 5/10
The Third Doctor – 6/10
The Fifth Doctor – 6/10
The Sixth Doctor – 7/10
The Eighth Doctor – 7/10
The Ninth Doctor – 7/10
The Twelfth Doctor – 7/10
The Fourth Doctor – 8/10
The Eleventh Doctor – 9/10
The Tenth Doctor – 10/10
If clothes maketh the man, then the Tenth Doctor is made by the very simple clothes that the wears. Not over the top, but something I look at and go “Yeah, I’d love to be able to pull of a look like thatâ€. Maybe not Doctor Who in the traditional sense, but it works nonetheless.
The Introduction
The Sixth Doctor The Twin Dilemma – 0.3/10
The Seventh Doctor Time and the Rani – 0.6/10
The First Doctor An Unearthly Child – 2.7/10
The Fifth Doctor Castrovalva – 2.7/10
The The Valeyard Trial of a Time Lord – 3.3/10
The Meta-Crisis Doctor Journey’s End – 3.6/10

The War Doctor The Day of the Doctor – 8/10
The Ninth Doctor Rose – 9/10
The Eleventh Doctor The Eleventh Hour – 10/10
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. It’ll take a lot to top Matt Smith’s introduction, and it was just what was needed to save the show from an untimely cancellation. Everything works perfectly and flows so smoothly, it’s no wonder I love it even now.
The Companions
The War Doctor/The Valeyard/The Meta-Crisis Doctor – 0/10
The Fifth Doctor – 2.8/10
The First Doctor – 3.4/10
The Fourth Doctor – 4.6/10
The Second Doctor – 6/10
The Sixth Doctor – 6/10
The Eleventh Doctor – 6.5/10
The Eighth Doctor – 6.5/10
The Seventh Doctor – 7/10
The Third Doctor – 7/10
The Ninth Doctor – 7.3/10
The Tenth Doctor – 7.5/10
The Twelfth Doctor – 7.5/10
No surprise that the modern Doctors have better companions, now that the companions are better written. What with the likes of Donna, Wilfred and Danny proving not only why companions are good but why they are needed, it’s not hard to see why I enjoyed them so much.

If I had to pick one story above all else, it would be City of Death. To use an oft overused quote: “Exquisite. Absolutely exquisite.†If you were only going to watch one episode of Doctor Who in your life, this would be the one to watch.
Worst Story
Personal Ranking (aka how the stories stack up next to each other).
The Eighth Doctor – The TV Movie 10/10
The Sixth Doctor – Timelash 9/10
The Fifth Doctor – Time-Flight 8/10
The Ninth Doctor – Aliens in London/World War Three 7/10
The Twelfth Doctor – Robots of Sherwood 7/10
The Seventh Doctor – Time and the Rani 6/10

The Second Doctor – The Dominators 4/10
The Eleventh Doctor – Series 6/Season 32 3/10
The Third Doctor – The Ambassadors of Death 2/10
The First Doctor – The Sensorites 1/10
The Tenth Doctor – Fear Her 0/10
Final Ranking (taking everything into account).
The Sixth Doctor – Timelash 6.8/10
The Fifth Doctor – Time-Flight 6.6/10
The Eighth Doctor – The TV Movie 6/10
The Ninth Doctor – Aliens in London/World War Three 4.2/10

The Seventh Doctor – Time and the Rani 1.6/10
The Third Doctor The Ambassadors of Death – 1.4/10
The First Doctor The Sensorites – 1/10
The Tenth Doctor – Fear Her 0/10
So on both ends of this scale, Timelash is incredibly good in how bad it is, while Fear Her is incredibly bad in how bad it is. Timelash gets points for the guilty pleasure factor, while Fear Her is easily the worst thing Doctor Who has ever made. Avoid Fear Her at all costs, it really is quite fearful.
Best Speech/Moment (Television only)
The War Doctor 3/10
The Sixth Doctor 5/10
The Tenth Doctor 6/10
The Fourth Doctor 6/10
The First Doctor 7/10
The Second Doctor 7/10
The Fifth Doctor 7/10
The Seventh Doctor 7/10
The Twelfth Doctor 7/10
The Eighth Doctor 9/10
The Eleventh Doctor 9/10
The Ninth Doctor 10/10
The Third Doctor 10/10
The Third Doctor and the Ninth Doctor both have speeches that define not only the Doctor, but Doctor Who in general. Great little moments, stuff that makes my fanboy heart jump. Great moments that will stand the test of time indeed.
Expanded Universe
The War Doctor/The Valeyard/The Meta-Crisis Doctor – 0/10
The Seventh Doctor 2/10
The Ninth Doctor 3/10
The Third Doctor 4/10
The Twelfth Doctor 4/10
The First Doctor 5/10
The Second Doctor 5/10
The Eleventh Doctor 5/10
The Fourth Doctor 5/10
The Tenth Doctor 6/10
The Fifth Doctor 7/10
The Sixth Doctor 10/10
The Eighth Doctor 10/10
No Doctors have benefited more from the Expanded Universe than the Sixth and the Eighth, who both had tragically bad runs on television. But in the audios/comics/novels? They’re fantastic, and I recommended you check them out. Just to see these Doctors done right.
Regeneration
The Sixth Doctor Nil – 0/10
The First Doctor The Tenth Planet – 2.3/10
The Second Doctor The War Games – 4/10
The War Doctor The Day of the Doctor – 4/10
The Seventh Doctor The TV Movie – 4.3/10
The Third Doctor Planet of the Spiders – 6.6/10
The Fourth Doctor Logopolis – 6.6/10
The Tenth Doctor The End of Time – 7/10
The Eleventh Doctor Time of the Doctor – 7/10
The Twelfth Doctor Dark Water/Death in Heaven 7.3/10
The Ninth Doctor Bad Wolf/The Parting of The Ways – 8.7/10
The Eighth Doctor Night of the Doctor – 9/10
The Fifth Doctor – The Caves of Androzani – 9.6/10
The Fifth Doctor dies redeeming himself by saving his companion and dying a true hero’s death. It’s what all regenerations should be aiming to live up to, since it perfectly sums up who the Doctor is. I don’t know if it can ever be topped, but perhaps one day it will be.
Overall
The War Doctor/The Valeyard/The Meta-Crisis Doctor – 3/10
The Sixth Doctor – 4/10
The Third Doctor – 5/10
The Fifth Doctor – 5/10
The First Doctor – 6/10
The Fourth Doctor – 7/10
The Eleventh Doctor – 7/10
The Eighth Doctor – 7.5/10
The Second Doctor – 8/10
The Seventh Doctor – 8/10
The Twelfth Doctor – 8/10
The Tenth Doctor – 9/10
The Ninth Doctor – 10/10
The Ninth Doctor probably has the best story arc out of all the Doctors out there. He has a very clear beginning, middle and, sadly, an end. But everything in the characters run works towards it, and it flows beautifully. Sad he left so soon, but fantastic while we had him.
Final Verdict
The War Doctor/The Valeyard/The Meta-Crisis Doctor – 26.6/100
The First Doctor – 47.2/100
The Seventh Doctor – 48.1/100
The Sixth Doctor – 49.7/100
The Third Doctor – 57.2/100
The Second Doctor – 59/100
The Fifth Doctor – 61/100
The Twelfth Doctor – 66/100
The Fourth Doctor – 66.2/100
The Tenth Doctor – 70/100
The Eleventh Doctor – 71.3/100
The Eighth Doctor – 75.8/100
The Ninth Doctor – 78/100
To perhaps the surprise of no one, The Ninth Doctor is the one that wins out when it comes to my favourite Doctor Who. Maybe a future Doctor will beat him, only time will tell. But as it stands, this is my ranking of the Doctors. So congrats on the Ninth for winning out against them all.
So there you have it. My look at the Doctors from worst to best. A few surprises here and there, but maths doesn’t lie. Thank you for sticking with me all the way. If you disagree with anything, or have anything to add, feel free to leave a comment. Till next time.
