I love doing cameos. Love, love, love, love, love it. I’ve done cameos for Timdiana, Decker Shado, Fusionater, Cartoon Physicist, and so many other members here at the site. Once upon a time, I used to have so many cameos to record I would sometimes feel overwhelmed. Not so much any more.
That’s why I was so happy to be asked to appear in MovieBuffMel90’s upcoming video. I printed out the script, set up my camera, made sure I was wearing a Manic Expression shirt, and had the chance to play. It was fun, and while I won’t spoil the video here I will say that I get to play a real Type A nut job version of myself. …Come to think of it that’s usually how people write me. …Wait, am I like that? Oh my God, is that what people really think of me!?
…Moving on. MovieBuff’s (also known as Morgan) request was such a welcome one because we don’t do crossovers and appearances in each others work nearly as much as we used to. His show, in which he talks movies and classic Doctor Who primarily, is an inventive and insightful look into his passions, and inviting a fellow Expressionist to come play in his sandbox was damn thoughtful of him. That’s what we do here, we play. We’re not professionals, we’re not superstars. We come to Manic Expression to have fun.
Morgan is the kind of Expressionist I like to have around – aware of his presence within the community. He could just be another person, posting on the site seeking more attention. Instead, he sees himself as part of something bigger. He doesn’t have a show about politics, health, deeply personal issues, and yet I feel watching his show a warmth and kindness that cannot be hidden. He may just be talking about movies, but dammit he loves movies, and he shares that love with us.
My hope is we can one day return to the days of crossovers and cameos here at Manic Expression, and once again feel like the tight knit community that was an inspiration to me. With people like Morgan around, I think there’s hope.
