The Top Eight Scariest Marble Hornets Entries

Posted by Brekclub85 on July 16, 2012 at 3:20 PM

Ah, the Slender Man mythos. The modern urban legend the internet created. And probably the most popular telling of this story is the Marble Hornets series on youtube. With about 60 entries now, viewers have become terrified of the Operator, Masky, and that damn terrifying distortion.

Today, I will count down the top 8 scariest entries IMO, and explaining my reasons why (While trying to remain spoiler free as possible.)

Here we go!

8. Entry 18: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BsPPQSwdVw

Anyone familiar with horror films knows a common type of jump scare is "Show where villain is, cut away, cut back he's suddenly closer". But in Masky's first appearence, they do something different: We see him in the distance, and then he charges straight at the friggen camera. It still makes me jump to this day.

7. Entry 60: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a-pO2Pm37A&list=UUHzIO0agtCQEsTxUcahZgjQ&index=2&feature=plcp

One of the most recent entries, Jay must descend into an old matinence tunnel. It's one of those environments where you know the scare is coming, it has to...but it still catches you off guard. Especially the extreme closeup of Slendy's face....

6. Entry 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn59FJ4HrmU

The beginning of it all. A soundless video where the camera goes towards a patio, and then the Operator himself turns his head. So basic, and yet has become quite possibly the most iconic Slender Man video. You will never look at your porch the same way again....

5. Entry 49: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVnwNBJask8&feature=relmfu

One of the biggest twists in the series, as of this video, we know Slender Man and Masky may no longer be the biggest threats...

4. Entry 29: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxCVvI7kgR0&feature=sub

The entry that provides the page image on ME's TVTropes page, and for good reason. Early on in season 2, we don't know what to think when the blood is discovered  (And the answer lies in my previous choice...) and then you see the Operator at the opposite end of the tunnel, shadowed out yet illuminated.  You really have to give the creators props.

3. Entry 52: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jlbdYFY79M

The second season finale, and boy did they end the season with a bang. After a dangerous confrontation with what may be the series' true villain, Jay and Jessica are at a hotel where Slendy shows up in their room. The sturggle is confusing, but freaky.

2. Entry 46: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4DFmc177AE&feature=channel&list=UL

I have nothing against jump scares. They are pretty much an accepted part of horror now, and they can be used very effectively. And this entry is one of the best examples of an effective jump scare. Jay is hiding in Alex's closet, knowing the Operator is outside. When Alex reaches him, the jump scare happens...

And the number one scariest entry of Marble Hornets IMO is........

1. Entry 14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lxsMHeOGjE

Two sum up what happens in this video in four words: Guy walks through door. And for me, that's what it's bone chilling scary. For me, doors are an excellent sourcve of horror. You don't know what could be waiting on the other side. And this entry sums up what makes Marble Hornets so great: Simple, yet scary.

There's my list, hope you guys enjoyed it! If this created new nightmares for you....sweet dreams.

The Duke: Hmph! How could a man so slender be regarded as horrifying? Look at the Duke's size, it makes the Duke intimidating!

Brek: I think that's besides the poi.....(gets eaten)

Duke: (Wipes off beak) Do not argue with the Duke, foolish blogger!

Brek: This is just gonna keep happening, ain't it?

Duke: Who knows, maybe all of you will be like the Duke one day....(chuckles in silent sinister....ness.)

Brek: Until next time!

Definitely a creepy compilation. But ever since LittleKuriboh came up with Jack Slenderman, I can't really find Marble Hornets that scary anymore. Everytime I see Slendy I imagine him saying "Hi guys! Can I be in your movie?"

To me the scariest entry will always be entry 19, because not only does my room sort of look like Jay's, I too have a camera and was stuck with the terryifying prospect of recording myself sleeping on the off chance there was a crazed masked man in my room. I think the scariest thing about it is that it could happen to you (yes YOU) every night and you have no idea. Although I'd rather have it happen and not know then film myself and know it for certain (ignorance is bliss and all that).

Saying that entry 60 made me not only shit bricks, but also the foundations and roofing tiles for a new house lol

Yeah, Entry 19 just barely missed the list, for me.

As with BBHM, this is the first I've heard of this.
