90’s Expansion Pack (Anaheim)

After nearly a decade and a half of expansion, the NHL’s size remained locked at 21 teams throughout the 1980’s. But, after the Wayne Gretzky trade to L.A. in 1988 grew hockey’s popularity in that city, the league began to look at tapping into new markets during the ‘90’s.

In year three of this 90’s expansion effort, another pair teams made their debut. The first of these two became the fourth franchise in NHL history to setup in California; the Anaheim Ducks.
